For our vocal instructors, music is not just a vocation but a way of life. You can rest assured that your voice will be taken care of at ECA Academy, and that all your sonic potential will be unlocked with the help of our vocal coaches.
Our classes cover classical, modern, folk and semi-classical music, in both group and one-to-one sessions, and we prepare students for singing reality shows and stage performances. In three years, 21 of our students and teachers have reached national shows such as The Voice of Nepal, The Voice Kids and Nepal Idol.
Lessons start at the harmonium, the traditional companion for voice practice (riyaz). From there, students explore the soft melodies of Nepali adhunik geet, made famous by voices like Narayan Gopal and Aruna Lama, Nepali lok songs, ghazal and bhajan, and ragas such as Yaman, Bhoopali and Bhairav.

What you need to begin
Nothing to start
We have harmoniums in class. For riyaz at home, beginner harmoniums in Kathmandu shops start from about Rs 17,800 (prices vary), and many beginners start with a free tanpura or shruti app. ECA Music Store can advise.
A little practice
At least 15 minutes a day, six days a week. Short daily practice works better than long sessions now and then. Never sing through pain or hoarseness.

Singing class questions
What age can my child start singing lessons?
Children can start with fun singing and rhythm games very young; formal voice lessons usually begin around 6 to 8 years, taught in an age-appropriate way. We run separate junior (children's) vocal batches, taught by Samir Pariyar.
How long until I can sing well?
With regular practice, a basic level can be reached within a few months. Singing the sargam in tune and a few songs usually comes first; ragas take longer, and every voice develops at its own pace.
Is it too late to start as an adult?
No. Adults learn sargam, songs and ragas well with regular practice, and we have batches for adults.
Group or one-to-one?
Both. We teach in group and one-to-one sessions; tell us your goals and we will suggest the right format.
Do you prepare students for reality shows?
Yes. We prepare students for singing reality shows and stage performances. Our students and teachers have reached The Voice of Nepal, The Voice Kids, Nepal Idol and Singing Star Nepal.
Can I learn singing online?
Yes, we offer online classes. You will need headphones, a decent microphone and a quiet room; online lessons work as "listen, then repeat".
